Jalandhar November 3, 2014: Indian Oil Mumbai beat Rail Coach Factory (RCF Kapurthala) by 5-3 and Punjab Police beat Bharat Petroleum by 4-2 to earn full points in men’s section of the 31st Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium here today. In Women’s section RCF Kapurthala registered second consecutive victory by beating Haryana XI by 6-3.

In men section first match in Pool A last year’s runners-up Indian Oil beat RCF Kapurtahala. In the 10th minute of the match Olympian Parabhjot Singh netted the ball from left flank (1-0). In the 15th minute Vikas Sharma scored the goal from the top of the circle to make it 2-0 for Indian Oil. In 20th minute RCF’s Simrandeep Singh converted the penalty corner to reduce the margin. In 22nd minute Indian Oil’s Sunil Yadav sounded the board with penalty corner conversion regain the lead of 2 goals. At half time Indian Oil was leading by 3-1.

In 49th minute of the secod half RCF’s Raman Singh netted the ball from right flank to reduce the margin once again (2-3) to one goal. In 61st and 66th minute of the play Indian Oil’s Gagandeep Singh scored twice to make it 5-2. In the dying minutes of the match RCF’s Sanjay Bir found target to make it 3-5 but it was too little and too late.

In the second match in men section in pool B Punjab Police after loosing their first match against Army XI today beat Bharat Petroleum by 4-2 to keep themselves in race for semi-finals. Punjab Police took lead in 13th minute when Captain Simranjeet Singh converted the penalty corner to take lead. In the 27th minute of the play Jagmeet Singh scored field goal for Punjab Police to double the lead. In the 33rd minute of the play Bharat Petroleum able to reduce the margin through Harjeet Singh to 1-2. At half time Punjab Police was leading by 2-1.

In second half’s 57th minute Punjab police consolidated, when Ajay Kumar converted the penalty corner (3-1). Punjab Police’s Sarabjeet Singh scored from right flank in 58th minute (4-1) . In 65th minute Bharat Petroleum’s Harjeet Singh reduced the margin (2-4).

In Women Section match RCF Kapurthala dominated the proceedings against Haryana XI. RCF eves took lead in the 7th minute when Amandeep Kaur sounded the board to open the scoring. In 11th minute of the play Deepika netted the ball from right flank to double the lead for RCF. In 15th minute Haryana’s Kiran reduced the margin to 1-2 to get her team back in the game. But, in 23rd minute RCF’s Amandeep Kaur was on target once again to restore 2 goals lead. Though, Haryana reduced the margin once again, this time though Jyoti Gupta, Anuradha Devi scored a goal for RCF in 33rd minute to take her team in lemon with 2 goals cushion (4-2).

After the change of ends, Haryana once again found themselves closer as Manmeet Kaur scored in 48th minute. But, goals from R Ali (55th minute) and Deepika (64th minute) won the match RCF eves by 6-3.
