Jalandhar November 2, 2014: Army XI, Punjab National Bank and Punjab & Sind Bank earned three full points by winning their league encounters of the 31st Indian Oil Surjit Hockey Tournament at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium here today.
In Women section’s first match Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala beat Punjab XI (India) by 5-1 to get three points. In men sections Army XI beat Punjab Police by 4-1, Punjab National Bank edged past ONGC by 1-0 and Holders Punjab & Sind Bank defeated Namdhari XI by 4-2.
In men section Pool B match Army XI grounded Punjab Police by 4-1. Army took lead in 12th minute when their Siraju AP converted the penalty corner (1-0). In 19th minute Punjab Police scored equalizer with the field goal by Jagmeet Singh (1-1). In 29th minute of the play Army once again took lead with penalty corner conversion by Siraju AP (2-1). After lemon break Army’s Binoy Bhengra in 54th minute and Bhushan Kujur in 57th minute of the play (4-1).
In men section Pool C – ONGC and Punjab National Bank gave tough fight to each other. At half time both teams were not able to score. In first half both teams earned two penalty corners each but not able to convert any one. In second half’s 66th minute of the play Lakhwinder Singh Lally scored the winning goal for the Punjab National Bank by converting penalty corner (1-0).
In men section’s third match in Pool D holder Punjab & Sind bank clashed swords with Namdhari XI. In the third minute of the play Namdhari’s Udhampreet Singh netted the ball from left flank (1-0). In the 14th minute Bankers equalized with the goal from penalty corner conversion by Vikramjit Singh (1-1). In 22nd minute of the play Bank’s Vikramjit Singh netted the ball with penalty corner conversion (2-1). In 25th minute Namdhari’s Gagandeep Singh equalized (2-2). In the 27th minute Parvinder Singh scored for the bank (3-2). In 29th minute Ajit Pandit scored a brilliant goal after dodging goal keeper for Bank (4-2). At half time Bank was leading by 4-2. the second half of the match was goal less.
In Women section’s first match Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala beat Punjab XI (India) by 5-1. In the first half Punjab eves gave tough fight in the first half. RCF girls took lead in 8th minute of the match when International star Anuradha Devi sounded the board (1-0). In 21st minute RCF’s International star Deepika netted the ball from left flank (2-0). In 23rd minute Punjab XI (India) reduced the margin when Meenakshi converted the penalty corner (1-2). At half time RCF was leading 2-1. In second half RCF girls controlled the match they scored three goals, the scorers were Deepika in 41st and 59th minute and Anuradha Devi in 69th minute of the play (5-1).
