Punjab Police beat Indian Navy to reach League Stage of Surjit Hockey Tournament

Jalandhar October 31, 2014: Punjab Police came back from 0-1 down to Indian Navy by 3-2 and entered the league stage of the 31st Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium today.

In last pre qualifying match Policeman bounced back after trailing by 1-0 in the 11th minute of the game when their Jagmeet Singh sounded the board to level the scores as, earlier Indian Navy took lead in the 6th minute of the play when Ved Parkash scored from right flank. Jalandhar October 30, 2014: Punjab Police derailed Northern Railways by 3-1 and Indian Navy defeated CRPF by 5-2 to enter next round of the 31st Servo Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium, Jalandhar.

In the first match of the day both teams displayed fast hockey. In the second minute of the match Punjab Police took lead when Jagmeet Singh sounded the board from the pass of International star Rajpal Singh (1-0). At Half time Punjab Police was leading by 1-0. In the second half 44th minute Punjab Police’s Jagmeet Singh scored second goal for the team (2-0). In the 57th minute of the play Northern Railways earned penalty stroke due to wrong tackling by Police defenders. Railways Simranjit Singh netted the ball to reduce the margin (1-2). Indian Hockey Team leaves for Australia Tour today

New Delhi, 29 October 2014: Indian Hockey team is all geared up to play the test series against Australia from 4 – 10 November 2014 and scheduled to depart for Australia tonight. The tour is also in preparations for the upcoming Hero Hockey Champions Trophy 2014, scheduled to be held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha from 06-14 December 2014.

Jalandhar October 29, 2014: Northern Railways made flying start by grounding Indian Air Force by 4-2 in the inaugural match of the 31st Servo IndianOil Surjit Hockey Tournament at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium here today.

Earlier Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema Hon’ble Education Minister Punjab inaugurated the Tournament and announced grant of Rs 5 Lakh to the Surjit Hockey Society. At this time Parvez Bandara President Punjab Hockey Association Pakistan, Pargat Singh MLA Jalandhar Cantt, K.K Yadav Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar, Iqbal Singh Sandhu ADC Phagwara were also present.

Olympian Shafqat Rasool of Pakistan International Airlines of Lahore will lead Punjab-XI (Pakistan) Men hockey team, which will participate in the Tournament.

Champions Trophy 2014 Gets Associate Sponsor in Tata Steel

New Delhi, 29 October 2014: Hero Hockey Champions Trophy 2014 gets a boost as Tata Steel has come on board as associate sponsor for the tournament to be held in Bhubaneswar, India from 6th December till 14th December 2014.

At a function held at Bhubaneswar, Tata Steel Limited signed an agreement with Hockey India, thereby announcing its Associate Sponsorship for the upcoming Hero Hockey Champions Trophy 2014 where some of the finest men’s international teams will be participating. The agreement was signed by Manikanta Naik, Chief Resident Executive, Tata Steel and Elena Norman, Chief Executive Officer of Hockey India.

In eight team event, World Cup and defending champions, Australia; Commonwealth Games bronze medalists, England; Euro nations silver medalists, Belgium and Asian Games silver medalists, Pakistan are grouped in Pool A. While in Pool B, hosts and Asian Games champions India, will face World Cup 2014 bronze medalists, Argentina; World Cup 2014 runners-up, the Netherlands and 2012 Olympic gold medalists, Germany in league stage of the followed to decide the quarter-final fixtures. 31st IndianOil Servo Surjit hockey tournament begins today

Jalandhar: The stage is set for 31st edition of the IndianOil SERVO Surjit Hockey Tournament, which begins tomorrow here at local Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium, Burlton Park, Jalandhar.

Surjit Hockey LogoTournament is organized every year by the Surjit Hockey Society, Jalandhar to keep the name of ex-Olympian late Sardar Surjit Singh Randhawa, former skipper of Indian Hockey Team, who lost his life in a fatal car accident near Jalandhar on January 7th, 1984, while fighting hard for up-liftment of the National Game of Hockey in our Country.

According to Kamal Kishore Yadav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar, who is also the President of the Surjit Hockey Society that two Pakistani teams namely, Punjab-XI (Men) & Rest of Pakistan (Women) will be seen in action during the tournament as both teams have got the visas.
