The Indian Senior Women core probables are busy in preparing for the 17th Asian Games at the NIS Patiala, while Men’s core probables will play at India ‘A’ vs India ‘B’ exhibition on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the late Major Dhyanchand and National Sports Day on 29th August 2014.
The exhibition match will also mark the celebration of new International Hockey Stadium in Raipur, which will be inaugurated the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Dr. Raman Singh and Speaker of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, Hon’ble Gauri Shankar Agarwal to be held at Incheon, South Korea from 19th September 2014.
The two teams of 16 national players each, including players who were part of the Silver Medal winning Indian Men Hockey Team at the recently concluded XX Commonwealth Games 2014 will be lead by Sardar Singh and Vickram Kanth.
Speaking on the preparations for the Asian Games, Indian Women Hockey team’s mid-fielder Ritu Rani said, “Going by the present form of the team and the recent performances, we are looking forward to a good show in the pool matches. We are aiming for a victorious start in the tournament against Malaysia and Thailand. Our clash against China will be the one to watch and we are working hard towards penalty corners, ball possessions and field tactics so that we can successfully overcome the opponents in the Asian Games.”
Commenting on the Asian Games preparations, Chief Coach Neil Hawgood said, “The women team is practicing hard and I am sure of respectable results in the Asian Games. The team has been working on the faulty areas as well as refining the individual’s and team’s strengths so that the girls are able to tackle every field situation in the upcoming matches of the Asian Games. The team is fully fit for the games and also learning to create on-field chances for themselves against the opponents.”
The 17th Asian Games will commence on 19th September 2014 and the Indian Women’s Hockey team is placed in Pool A with China, Malaysia and Thailand.
Speaking on the occasion, Hockey India’s Secretary General, Dr. Narinder Batra said, “I am thankful to the Government of Chhattisgarh for building this second Hockey stadium in the state within a span of almost six months. These initiatives will go in a long way to develop hockey in Chhattisgarh”.
