The Black Sticks Men have defeated Poland 8-3 to progress unbeaten into the quarter finals at the Pahang Champions Challenge 1 being played at Kuantan, Malaysia as Pool A toppers, while Korea topped Pool B.

The Black Sticks now face a quarter final clash against hosts Malaysia, who finished last in Pool B, at 14:45 local time (18:45 NZ Time) on Thursday. The other quarter final matches are Ireland vs France, Korea vs Japan and Canada vs Poland on the same day.

On the second day of FIH Champions Challenge 1 (Women’s), the hosts Scotland outclassed India to win 4-0 in Pool A match, while Korea defeated Belgium 2-1 in other match of Pool A at Glasgow National Hockey Centre.

With these results, Korea are sitting on top of the Pool A with 6 points followed by Scotland and Belgium at 2nd and 3rd place respectively with 3 points each. India, who are at 4th place in Pool A, will play Belgium in their last league stage match on 30th April at 2030 IST, while hosts Scotland will challenge Korea on the same day for the top spot in the pool.
The hosts, Scotland made a confident start and proved to be dominating from the very beginning of the game winning a penalty corner in the fourth minute but failed to convert the same. Savita, Indian goal keeper, denied another goal opportunity to Scotland in the 11th minute as well and the replacement goal keeper Yogita Bali did an exceptional job in holding Scotland back from opening their account, as both the Indian goal keepers proved to be efficient and restricted Scotland in converting most of their opportunities into a goal. Ireland came back from 0-2 down at half time to hold Spain for 2-2 in a Pool B match at the FIH Women’s Champions Challenge 1 being played at Glasgow. While, South Africa also bounced back from 0-1 down at half time and defeated USA 2-1 in today’s other game of Pool B to grab the top spot in the pool with 4 points.
South Africa are followed by USA and Ireland with 3 and 2 points respectively at 2nd and 3rd place in the pool with all the teams having to play one match each at pool stage. Continue reading →

This is where most of the hockey players from Terrassa, Hockey Nursery of Spain as Punjab is to India, spend their holidays. The Hockey players decided to create this event, THCB, there. Now they can enjoy the summer, the sun, the beach and the hockey as well!
28 April 2014 (Perth, Australia) – The Kookaburras’ squad for next month’s men’s Rabobank Hockey World Cup has been announced by Hockey Australia. National Coach Ric Charlesworth and the selection panel have named what they believe to be the best balanced 18 athlete squad as Australia looks to successfully defend the gold medal won at the 2010 World Cup in Delhi.

Ten of that world title-winning side are selected for the 2014 campaign while just three of the squad have made fewer than 50 appearances for Australia.
Announcing the squad, Charlesworth said of the selection process: “It’s as hard as it’s ever been for me. 28 [fit athletes] doesn’t go into 18. It’s been a difficult process and there are two or three very unlucky people; some we just couldn’t find a place for.”

Poonam Rani completed her 100th international match during their European Tour against Ireland last week, Chanchan Devi completed the milestone as she entered the pitch at Glasgow National Hockey Centre in India’s first match of the FIH Champions Challenge 1 against Korea yesterday, which India lost 2-4.
