15 March 2014: Assam defeated Vidarbha Hockey Association 7-1 in Pool A to qualify for the semi-finals of the 4th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship 2014 (Division A). Assam today registered their third consecutive win and remained on the top of the Pool table with three wins from the matches they have played.
Assam scored its opening goal in the 2nd minute through penalty corner converted by Seema Bharti. In the 20th minute Assam yet again got a penalty corner and this time, Shikha Singh did the job for the team. Within 3 minutes Assam struck again when Nilima Pandey converted a pass which she got in the 23rd minute and hence taking the tally to 3-0. Vidarbha Hockey Association scored its 1st goal in the 24th minute and it was Nilam Nishad who scored for her team through a field goal. Going into the break the scorecard read 4-1 with Assam leading the game.
In the second half, Assam was in full control of the session and added another 3 goals which helped them take the win with a huge margin. It was Shikha Singh, Nilima Panday and Seema Bharti who scored 2 goals each during the match, helping the team for go for an easy win.
Bengal Hockey Association registered a big win over Goa 11-0. Bengal Hockey Association maintained the pressure on the opponents from the very first minute of the game. They opened their score card in the 5th minute when the team for a Penalty Corner opportunity. Shashi Punam Kullu converted the chance successfully hence giving the team its first goal. Going into the break, Bengal Hockey Association was leading 7-0 and which gave them an edge during the second half when they were high on confidence. In the final 10 minutes of the match it was Soni Gond who scored a hat-trick goal in the 64th 65th and 66th minute, taking the team to a convincing win.
In the Pool D group, it was Delhi who defeated Puducherry 9-0. Team Puducherry on its art could not convert the changes that the team got because of which they were unsuccessful in opening its scorecard. With this win Delhi registered its second consecutive win. Pooja yet again continued her goal scoring spree for the team and in the 5th minute she converted the penalty corner opportunity that the team got. With 2 minutes Delhi yet again took another goal through Sunita Rani who converted through a Field Goal. At the end of the 1st half the team was leading 3 goals to 0.
The second half was no different and Delhi not wanting to let its guard down continued its attack on Puducherry. They scored another 6 goals in the session taking the tally to 9-0. In the final minute of the match Pooja yet again scored in the 69th minute. This win helps Delhi consolidate its position in the Pool table.
Uttarakhand registers its 1st win in the Pool B defeating Jammu & Kashmir 4-2. Uttarakhand played a good round of hockey against Jammu & Kashmir by keeping their nerves in the entire match and in the process showcasing self confidence of winning. In the 10th minute Anita Pawar scored the first goal for her team. She again scored through a Field Goal in the 28th minute taking the lead to 2-0. The very next minute Jammu & Kashmir replied back with a goal in the 29th minute and this was also a Field Goal by Baljeet Kaur. The results at the end of 1st half were 2-1. It was Anita Pawar of Uttarakhand who scored 3 goals for her team.
In the last match of the day Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu beat Tripura 10 goals to 0 and going on to win its second consecutive match in the Pool C group. Karpagam, Karuppayee, Sajina and Sasikala scored 2 goals each, hence placing the team in a comfortable position in the match.
