14 March 2014: On the opening day for Pool A and Pool B matches of the 4th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2014 (Division A) being played at Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in Lucknow, Chandigarh Olympic Association, Services Sports Control Board and Comptroller & Auditor General of India, all registered their maiden win in their respective matches.
Chandigarh Olympic Association played an excellent match against Andhra Pradesh and defeated them with 4-2 in Pool A. Chandigarh Olympic Association was on a full throttle in the first half of the match as they dominated with a 2-0 lead till half time. Chandigarh’s Tarandeep Singh started off with the goal scoring spree for the team in the 9th minute of the game, followed by Navdeep Singh’s two goals in the 20th and 39th minute and Lakhwinder singh in the 51st minute.
Andhra Pradesh showed signs of snatching the match away from Chandigarh Olympic Association as Andhra Pradesh’s Krishan Kishore V opened the account for the team in the 55th minute followed by Rajesh N.S in the 57th minute. But the duo failed to penetrate any further and lost the game to Chandigarh Olympic Association.
Earlier, the match between Services Sports Control Board and Association of Indian Universities witnessed both the teams struggling to score any goals in the first half of the match as the score remained at 0-0 in Pool A. Both Services Sports Control Board and Association of Indian Universities focused on defending and restricting each other from scoring.
The second half of the game again saw both the teams struggling to score and register the first goal of the match until Services Sports Control Board’s Lovedeep Singh cashed on to the opportunity and successfully converted the penalty corner just a minute before the match-time ran out. Both the teams showed strength and a skillful game but a small error cost Association of Indian Universities the game and gave away the match to Services Sports Control Board at 1-0.
In another exciting clash, Comptroller & Auditor General of India overcame Sports Authority Of India 5-1 in their opening match of Pool B. The match witnessed Comptroller & Auditor General of India dominating the very first half as they led by 2-0 till the half time. Gurpratap Singh of Comptroller & Auditor General of India scored the first goal for the team in the 10th minute followed by Dhyan Singh in the 13th minute.
Chandan Singh took the lead ahead in the second half when he successfully converted the penalty corner in the 39th minute for Comptroller & Auditor General of India. Sports Authority of India’s Arjun Yadav managed to sneak in a field goal in the 45th minute but failed to continue after that. Chandan Singh again converted a penalty corner at the 48th minute and the final goal was penetrated by Comptroller & Auditor General of India’s Imran Khan in the 51st minute which helped the team increasing the lead of the win.
