The Fans of HockeyDomestic HockeyDebutants Gangpur Won the B-Division of Sr Nationals

13 March 2014: Hockey Gangpur-Odisha pipped Hockey Maharashtra by 3-2 in a nail-biting final match of the 4th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2014 (Division B) at Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in Lucknow, while Mumbai defeated Namdhari XI 3-1 to finish third.

Both Hockey Gangpur-Odisha and Hockey Maharashtra went all out from the very beginning of the match which led to a 2-2 score on board by the end of the first half. This close fight saw attacks and counter-attacks. The first goal of the match was scored by Gangpur-Odisha’s William Xalxo in the very first minute of the game to which Hockey Maharashtra’s Captain Vishal Pillay replied with a goal in the 3rdminute.

Both team went on defensive mode in the second half of the match and restricted each other from scoring any goals till Hockey Gangpur-Odisha’s Ashish Anmol Minz managed to sneak in and strike the winning goal in the 52nd min and steal away the title from Hockey Maharashtra.

Earlier, Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd defeated Namdhari XI 3-1 to finish third in the Division B of the championship. Mumbai Hockey Association showed extraordinary potential in the game as they made an exceptional comeback in a game that was being dominated by Namdhari XI in the first half. The first goal of the match came through Namdhari XI’s Bhagat Singh Dhillon in the 22nd minute of the game, which got the spirits high for Namdhari XI till the half time.

Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd made a striking comeback in the game through Captain Victo Singh’s two field goals in the 40th and 49th minute and motivated his team with a 2-1 lead. A motivated Tyron Pereira of Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd flicked in the final blow and helped defeating Namdhari XI.

Final – Hockey Gangpur-Odisha 3 William Xalxo (1st min), Bikash Toppo (35th min) and Ashish Anmol Minz (52nd min) Vs. Hockey Maharashtra 2 Vishal Pillay (3rd min) and Vinit Kamble     29th min).

Bronze Medal – Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd. 3 Victo Singh (40th and 49th min) and Tyron Pereira (56th min) Vs. Namdhari XI 1 Bhagat Singh Dhillon (22nd min)
