9 March 2014: Namdhari XI and Mumbai registered their third consecutive victories on the day 11 of the 4th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2014 (Division B) being played at Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in Lucknow.
In a Pool A match between Namdhari XI and Bihar, Karandeep Singh Dhillon of Namdhari alone pocketed 4 goals for the team at 8th, 16th, 25th and 64th minute of the game followed by Baljot Singh’s two goals at 15th and 47th minute. Naveen Minz, Bhim Kumar and Mangra Bhengra of Bihar only managed to strike one goal each at 12th, 40th and 51st minute of the game. By the end of the first half, Namdhari XI led the match by 8-1 and finally cashed on to their victory with a difference of 10 goals to 3.
In another match of Pool A, Sashastra Seema Bal and Gujarat saw the former conquering the field and raced ahead of Gujarat by 8-3. Sashastra Seema Bal made it quite evident from the very beginning that they will not be easy to control today, as they took the score up to 7-1 in the first half of the game. Gujarat did make a better come back in the second half of the game where they restricted Sashastra Seema Bal with only one more goal opportunity which took their total to 8 and themselves got a stroked two more goals and took Gujarat’s total to 3 goals. However, the damage was already done by the Sashastra Seema Bal in the first half itself with the help of L.Joychandra Singh who converted two goals within two minutes at 10th and 12th minute, Pankaj Nath Sharma at 4th minute, H.Surachandra Singh at 14th minute followed by O.Gunamani Singh again striking two goals at 20th and 22nd minute. On the other hand, Gujarat’s Vijay Thapa managed to score two goals at 7th and 56th minute and Bipin Kunatiya only one at 49th minute which did not really affect the match result.
Earlier, Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd defeated Uttarakhand 4-0 in their league match of Pool B. Both the teams failed to open accounts in the first half of the match.. However, in the second half of the game, Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd. restricted Uttarakhand from scoring any goals and themselves stroked as many as four goals with the help of Captain Victo Singh and Amit Goswami, both scoring two goals each at 46th and 47th minute (Victo Singh) and 49th and 51st minute (Amit Goswami), which led the team to a 4-0 win over Uttarakhand.
In another match of Pool B, Himachal Pradesh made a good comeback in the championship, as they registered a big win against Goa 12-1. Sanwar Ali scored maximum six goals for Himachal Pradesh followed by Gaurav Kumar (2), Dharam Singh (1), Harmandeep Singh (1), Ved Prakash Tiwari (1) and Rockey Lohchab (1).
Himachal Pradesh had earlier lost their second league match to Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd by 0-4.
