Jalandhar 15 October 2013: ONGC defeated Punjab National Bank by 5-0 in Pool B in Quarter Finals League stage of the 30th Servo Indian Oil Surjit Hockey Tournament at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium here today, while Mumbai XI beat Indian Overseas Bank 7-5 to finish the tournament on high note.

The team of ONGC needed a win to stay on track for the place in Semi Finals, and they outclassed the PNB who had won their previous match against BSF.

In the 8th minute of match International player Diwakar Ram converted a penalty corner to open the scoring for his team. In the 10th minute of the play ONGC’s Bikash Toppo netted the ball from right flank to double the lead. In the 17th minute of the play Preetinder Singh scored field goal with reverse stick from top of the circle to make it 3-0 in favour of ONGC.

The team ONGC added two more through Diwakar Ram on Penalty Stroke and Mandeep Antil on a Penalty Corner (49th minute) in second half to complete the tally of 5-0. With this win ONGC is now top of the Pool B, with one match remaining against BSF to be played tomorrow. A draw against BSF would be good enough for ONGC to go to Semi Finals, while BSF also stand a chance to be semis if they manage to defeat ONGC with 4 or more goal difference.

Lead by young Indian Forward Yuvraj Walmiki, Mumbai XI beat Indian Overseas Bank by 7-5 in the quarter-final league stage to finish the tournament on winning as they already missed a place in semi finals.

In Pool C Mumbai XI dominated the proceeding in the first half of the match. They took lead in 6th minute when their captain Yuvraj Walmiki scored the field goal (1-0). In the 27th minute Walmiki struck once again to double the lead. Vinod kumar added another goal to make 3-0 for Mumbai XI in 30th minute. V Shanmugam scored a field goal for his IOB to reduce the margin to 1-3 in 32nd minute. At Half time Mumbai XI was leading by 3-1.

In the first minute of 2nd half, Mumbai XI’s Vinod Kumar scored a field goal to restore the three goals lead (4-1). Roshan Singh scored the fifth goal of Mumbai XI for 42nd minute and he scored once two minutes later to make it 6-1 for Mumbaikars. Yuvraj Walmiki scored his third goal of the match in 51st minute to make it 7-1 for Mumbai XI.

Spirited IOB, who were trailing by 6 goals with 15 minutes remaining to hooter put a strong fight back to and scored the goal via Mohan Muthanna to make it 2-7. V Vinod Rayer (60th minute), Mohan Muthanna (64th minute) scored two more to make it 4-7. Captain D Muthuselvan scored 5th goal for the Bankers in last-minute to make it 5-7, but that was little late to grab a point from outing.
