An outstanding goalkeeping performance by Sreejesh helped India in beating Korea by 2-0 in crucial Pool B game, while Bangladesh defeated Oman 4-2 in other Pool B game of 9th Asia Cup being played at Sultan Azlan Shah Stadium in Ipoh (Malaysia).
Purposeful India scored two goals with ~5 minutes each from first whistle and final hooter to book their place in semi finals to be played on Friday, August 30th (Full schedule here).
India took early lead when Raghunath converted their 1st penalty with low and fierce flick to the left of Korean keeper in 6th minute.
It was goalkeepers on both sides who kept the score at 1-0 till half time, though Korea earned around half a dozen Penalty Corners but India saved all of them to go in lemon break with a slender lead of one goal.
Koreans stretched Indian defence through out the match and played some brilliant long balls to penetrate into their offensive circle at many occasions. But PR Sreejesh, who was excellent under the bar, kept thwarting Korean attacks, who was later adjudged as man of the match.
As Korea was searching for equalizer, India pressed the accelerator to raid Korean circle in multiple numbers.But India scored their 2nd goal in little less crowded situation.
In 65th minute, Dharamvir passed a ball to D-top, where Mandeep Singh stole the ball from Korean defender to fire it past Korean goalkeeper to double the lead for his team and win the match.
India will play Bangladesh in their next pool on Wednesday 28th August at 17:35 IST.
