The Netherlands defeated valiant India 3-0 in the second semi-final of the ERGO Hockey Junior World Cup in Mönchengladbach, Germany. In the final match, the Netherlands will face Argentina, who also recorded 3-0 win in semi final against England. India will take on England in Sunday’s Bronze medal match at Pitch 1 of Warsteiner HockeyPark.
In the India vs Netherlands game, which was mostly played in the midfield, Netherlands took lead through their first penalty corner. The tournament top scorer Lieke van Wijk did not waste opportunity and found the target with her drag flick in 17th minute. Both the teams missed a penalty corner each before half time hooter and score stood 1-0 in favor the Dutch girls at the lemon break.
India came out firing in 2nd half but to earn a penalty corner in 41st minute, which they missed. Then Indian goalie denied a goal on PC when she pulled a double save. Lisanne de Lange doubled the lead for the defending champions in 57th minute.
Dutch goalie, Anne Veenendaal, who was in superb form through out the game, pulled another save against Rani with 6 minutes remaining on the clock. The Netherlands defenders combined well their in form goalie to absorb Indian pressure in dying minutes of the game and scored through Lisa Scheerlinck on a counter-attack in 68th minute to win the game and set-up repeat final as last edition.
