India will Face Korea in Hockey Asia Cup Final

Korea pipped Pakistan to clear the way for India to 2014 World Cup qualification and set up summit clash against them in the 9th Asia Cup being played at Ipoh in Malaysia. India defeated Malaysia 2-0 in the other semi final.

India defeated the hosts Malaysia 2-0, who were backed by the packed Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Stadium. V R Raghunath and young Mandeep Singh scored for the winners.

In the first semi final, Korea edged past Pakistan in a hard fought game. The defending champions of Asia Cup, Korea scored through Jang Jong Hyun and Lee Nam Yong in 32nd and 40th minute respectively on penalty corners while Pakistan reduced the margin through their captain Muhammad Imran in 46th on a penalty corner. It is India vs Malaysia and Pakistan vs Korea in Semis of Asia Cup

On the final day of Pool stage at the 9th Asia Cup, India and Korea won their respective matches to set up Semi Finals against Malaysia and Pakistan respectively, which will be played on Friday at 1915 and 1700 IST respectively (Schedule here).

As expected, Asian Giants India did not give much space and chance to their neighbours, Bangladesh and completed their pool stage with 3 straight victories to top the Pool A at the Asia Cup in Ipoh, Malaysia. India had defeated Oman (8-0) and Korea (2-0) in their first two matches.

On the day, which belonged to the penalty corner specialists, Nikkin scored his maiden international goal. With the help of 4 goals each from Rupinder Pal Singh and Raghunath, India scored a total of 9 goals against Bangla boys, and also conceded their first goal of the tournament, when, Md.Mamunur Rahman Chayan, Bangladesh Captain found the mark on penalty corner in 34th minute. Pretty in Pink Hockeyroos Support National Breast Cancer Foundation

Australia’s women’s hockey team, the Hockeyroos and their major sponsor Ausdrill raised money during a community engagement trip to Kalgoorlie in May for supporting National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF). The Pretty in Pink Hockeyroos were joined by NBCF and Ausdrill representatives at the training today, when the reigning Commonwealth Games gold medallists presented NBCF with a cheque for $9092.05.

Pakistan and Malaysia in the Semis of Hockey Asia Cup

Pakistan crushed Chinese-Taipei while hosts Malaysia came back from 2 goals down to beat Japan in the concluding games of Pool A at the 9th Asia Cup. With these results Pakistan and Malaysia qualified for Friday’s semi-finals, while Japan and Chinese-Taipei will play for 5th-8th place classification (Detailed schedule and results here).

Asian Hockey Giants, Pakistan and India, either one of them will miss the bus to the Hague, have outperformed other teams till now in Ipoh, where winner takes all to book the tickets to the Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014, to be played next year in June.

The Green Shirts dominated their pool to top the pool with 3 wins of 3 matches, followed by Malaysia who lost to Pakistan in pool stage.

Super Sreejesh Wins it for India against Korea

An outstanding goalkeeping performance by Sreejesh helped India in beating Korea by 2-0 in crucial Pool B game, while Bangladesh defeated Oman 4-2 in other Pool B game of 9th Asia Cup being played at Sultan Azlan Shah Stadium in Ipoh (Malaysia).

Purposeful India scored two goals with ~5 minutes each from first whistle and final hooter to book their place in semi finals to be played on Friday, August 30th (Full schedule here).

Super Series Hockey 9s Line Up Complete, No India in this edition

Hockey Australia has announced line-up for hockey’s 2013 International Super Series Hockey 9s, which will played from 17 to 20 October 2013 at Perth Hockey Stadium, Perth (WA).

In the third edition of the tournament, 4 men’s and 4 women’s teams will be looking for the top honors. The innovative format of the tournament, has 9 players in a team on pitch with wider goal posts to create free flowing and entertaining hockey with high scoring opportunity.

Australia’s Hockeyroos will be joined by Canada, Malaysia and world champions Argentina in the women’s competition in Perth, WA. The line-up for the men’s tournament sees Australia’s world champ Kookaburras go up against Argentina, Pakistan and Malaysia, but India, who played in first two editions of the tournament, will give it a miss this edition.
