Meredith announces Irish Men’s Squad for Hockey World League Round 3 (Semi Final)

Irish Men’s Coach Andrew Meredith has named his squad for the upcoming Rabobank World League Semi-Finals in Rotterdam from the 13th-23rd June 2013. Meredith has selected the 18 from an original training panel of 30 after two recent intensive training camps and a two-match test series against Germany in Mannheim which saw the Green Machine tie the series 1-1 with the reigning Olympic Champions.

Meredith’s selection sees the return of experienced duo Timmy Cockram and Peter Caruth who missed the Green Machine’s outing at World League 2. The squad also includes a number of players who have excelled in the recent Irish Hockey League with Peter Brown, Kyle Good and Jonathan Bell in particular all rewarded for putting in stellar performances in Irish Hockey’s premier domestic tournament this season. New Delhi, 31 May 2013: Defending Champions Punjab start their campaign with a big win over Gujarat 30-0 in their opening league match of Pool A in the 3rd Hockey India Senior Men National Championship played at Shiv Chhatrapati Shivaji Sports Complex in Pune on Friday.

Experienced side Punjab started their game on attacking mode and successfully built pressure on their opponents. Forward Vikramjit Singh scored maximum seven goals for Punjab followed by Simranjit Singh (6), Inderjeet Singh (5), Sarvanjit Singh (4), Ravi Pal (3), Jarnail Singh (3), Vikas Sharma (1) and Sandeep Singh (1).

NORFOLK, Va. – May 29, 2013 – The 2013 Women’s National Championship athletes have exerted their entire selves through years of competition and training in hopes of a single sound. Although welcomed, it’s not the deafening applause from a stadium-packed crowd or the high shrill of an umpire’s whistle after a goal. Rather in a momentous fashion, it is the faint sound of a single page turning – a new chapter that signifies reaching the very pinnacle of field hockey and the honor of embodying the nation.

Andaman & Nicobar stun Haryana, Air India, Namdhari XI and Chandigarh Win in Pune Hockey Nationals 2013

New Delhi, 30 May 2013: Andaman & Nicobar edged past last edition’s Semi Finalists Haryana 4-2 in Pool H match of the 3rd Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2013 to register their second consecutive win.

Pradhan Somanna, Affan Yousuf and Joga Singh scored three goals each as Air India raced to a 15-0 win against Chhattisgarh in their Pool B league match of Hockey National Championship being played in Pune.

Air India notched their second win in the four team pool. Air India scored through Sameer Dad (2 min), Pradhan Somanna (5, 40, 66 min), Affan Yousuf (9, 31, 68 min), Joga Singh (18, 21, 25 min), Birendra Lakra (32, 63 min), Swami Vinaya (56 min), Cheeyanna Bopaiah (58 min) and Arjun Halappa (61 min) while their opponents Chhattisgarh fail to open their account. England Men set for World League Semi Final, Crutchley Names a Squad of 20

29 May 2013: Ahead of the World League Semi Final in Johor, Malaysia, England Men’s Head Coach Bobby Crutchley has named a squad of 20 athletes who will fly out to Malaysia next month to prepare for the new FIH competition. The final 18 man squad will be announced closer to the event which runs from 29 June – 7 July.

The line-up sees six London 2012 Olympians returning to action, plus several other athletes who bring a wealth of experience to the squad. Alongside them, Crutchley has also named a number of less experienced athletes, three of whom will be looking to secure international debuts.

Back from a season playing for Dutch side HGC, England Captain Barry Middleton is ready for the new challenge ahead, “I am really looking forward to the tournament as it gives the squad a good chance to see where we stand right now in World Hockey. We have a new group with a good mix of youth and experience and there’s a real desire to get out there and challenge ourselves against the best sides in the world.
