As per the report published on FIH (International Hockey Federation) website, the Executive Board decided to bring in a 45-second shot clock for all penalty corners, which will come in effect from the Women’s Hockey World League Round 4 tournament in Argentina.The board also decided to remove extra time from FIH events, thus classifications games will directly go into shootout, if tied after regulation time of 70 minutes.
The board also announced the invitational places 2014 Champions Trophy, which goes to Germany and England in Men’s tournament, and to New Zealand and China for Women’s competitions.
According to FIH Website, the new Executive Board also received updates on several of the key points in the FIH Strategic Plan including Project Brazil, Complementary Game (Hockey 5s), Commercial Strategy (Sponsorship, TV/digital rights and hosting fees, etc), Event Assignment Process and FIH Academy.
Complementary game of Hockey 5s continues to progress and it will be played at Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing and its qualifiers in April. The rules for Hockey 5s were discussed and adapted to make it player-friendly by having the match in three thirds of 12 minutes each.
The board also discussed the new commercial strategy for 2015-2018 cycle, which has some ambitious targets. While, event assignment process kicked off in February with many National Associations showing their interests and the board discussed it further keeping in mind that early assignment of events will help in better planning and will also give enough time to talk to sponsors and broadcasters.
