Indian Women’s Team Won Hockey World League Round 2 New Delhi

New Delhi, 23 February 2013: Indian women’s team sneaked past Russia 1-0 in a tough contest on final day of the Hero Hockey World League Round 2 Delhi 2013 to finish as Winners, while Japan are runners.

Both India and Russia played defensive shots fairly well, due to which none of the team scored in half time. Score-line was changed in 51st min as Rani scored the winner for India.

India and Japan top the points table with 13 points each but India is ahead of Japan as India won four matches and drawn one. Whereas, Japan won three matches and drawn two.

Rani was adjudged as the Hero Player of the Match. Title sponsor Hero MotoCorp awarded Rs. 2 Lakh to Jaspreet Kaur for being adjudged Hero Player of the Tournament, and for this achievement, Hockey India awarded Rs. 1 Lakh cash prize to Jaspreet Kaur.

Meanwhile, twenty second-ranked Malaysia women’s team gave frustrating competition to ninth-ranked Japan in first half but lost the battle 0-4 on seventh and final day today.

The match started with felicitation of Japan’s Miyuki Nakagawa who completed her 200 international matches today.

Malaysian team didn’t give enough space in the midfield and kept Japanese team engaged through-out the first half. However, Ayaka Nishimura from Japan broke the wall and scored first goal in 31st min followed by Aki Mitsuhashi (45th min – PC), Akiko Kato (51st min) and Aya Ueda (55th min).

Aki Mitsuhashi from Japan was adjudged as the Hero Player of the Match for her tactical attack penalty corner.
