New Delhi, 24 February 2013: Indian men’s hockey team remained unbeaten to win the Hero Hockey World League Round 2 Delhi 2013, by registering an easy victory against spirited Bangladesh 5-1 on final day ofat Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium today. Earlier in evening their women counter part defeated Russia to win Women’s title. (Detailed reports below)

In the other matches of the day in men’s competition, riding on O’Donoghue’s hat-trick Ireland defeated China 4-0 to finish second while, Oman beat Fiji 7-3 to avoid wooden spoon.

In the last match of the tournament, Bangladesh’s Md. Mamunur Rahman Chayan scored the first goal and gave lead to his team against India through a penalty corner in first 5th min.

India fought back since then and outclassed the opponents in all section of the match. India didn’t allow Bangladeshi players to keep the ball for longer duration and space for their movement. Danish Mujtaba (15th & 64th min), Rupinder Pal Singh (32nd min – PC), Akashdeep Singh (50th min) and Malak Singh (58th min) scored for India to win the last match.

With 15 points, India is at the top of the points table ahead of Ireland who collected 12 points from five matches.

Danish Mujtaba was adjudged as the Hero Player of the Match. Title sponsor Hero MotoCorp awarded Rs. 2 Lakh to Sardar Singh for being adjudged Hero Player of the Tournament. And for this achievement, Hockey India also awarded Rs. 1 Lakh cash prize to Indian skipper.
