Malaysian junior men’s hockey team i.e. Project 2013 Hockey Squad, is in Bangalore (India) on two weeks playing tour. The team is currently playing in the 1st Phase of KSHA State Super Division Hockey Tournament 2012-13.
The Malaysian outfit reached Bangalore today and played their first match against Ashish Ballal Hockey Academy (ABHA) in evening at KSHA Hockey Stadium.
The visitors won the match with scoreline of 6-2. Syamim Mohd Yusof, Hafiz Zainol, Faiz Helmi, Zulhairi Hashim, Fitri Saari and Sobirin Ilias scored once each for Malaysia while Lawrence and Md Nizzamuddin reduced the margin for ABHA i.e. team from academy run by Olympian and 1998 Asiads Gold Medalist Ashish Ballal.
The 18 member Malaysian squad has come down to Bangalore for the preparations of Junior World Cup 2013, which will be played from December 5-16 in India. Apart from KSHA State Super Division Hockey Tournament matches, the visitors will play a few matches against Indian Oil and Army teams to get high pressure match practice during their 2 weeks stay in the city.
Gobinathan, Manager and Assistant Coach of the Project 2013 squad, told thefansofhockey.com, “They planning to have 8-10 high quality matches during their stay here in Bangalore from February 16-20, which is their 4th tour of India in as many years.”
Apart from coaches Dharmaraj (Chief Coach) and Gobinathan (Asst Coach), the squad is accompanied by Dr Saju Josesh, Razana (Physio) and Musrizal (Video Analyst).
Tomorrow (17th February), Malaysia will face Central Excise at 4.30 PM while MEG ‘B’ and ASC on 19th and 20th February in KSHA Super Division Hockey League.(Detailed schedule here)
