The final of day league stage of 2nd Asian Champions Trophy 2012 at Doha turned out to be exciting one as results of all three matches were important in deciding the 2nd finalists after India had already qualified for it.
In the first match China defeated Oman (6-1) to register their 3rd victory in the tournament to take themselves on 2nd place in points temporarily. Then Pakistan defeated (5-2) Japan after seesawing first half which ended up on equal terms (2-2) and climbed to second place in the table.
Pakistan had taken early lead through Muhammad Waqas in 1st min and Japan replied with two penalty corner goals in 8th and 23rd minute through Heita Yoshihara and Toshiro Tachibana respectively to bring out smiles on the faces of Malaysian fans. But evergreen Shakeel Abbasi scored equalizer for the green shirts a minute before the half time hooter.
In the second half, Pakistan scored three more goals through Muhammad Waqas and Abdul Haseem Khan (2) to not only win it comfortably but also set a target of 6 goals victory against India for Malaysia to reach finals.
In the last match of the day, Malaysia started on positive note and took lead of 4-0 with the help of a brace from Mohd. Fitri Saari and a goal each from Azlan Misron and Faizal Sari till the early minutes of 2nd half and looked right on track for finals. Then India scored three goals through Birendra Lakra (47th Minute), SV Sunil (62nd Minute) and VR Raghunath (63rd Minute-PC) to come back in the game, but Azammi Adabi scored in 68th minute to seal the game for Malaysia but that was not enough for his team to reach the final.
