The IHA Board are delighted to announce that thanks to the overwhelming response from the Hockey Family both home and abroad that the team will now be competing in the Hockey Champions Challenge 1 in Argentina which is taking place from the 24th Nov to the 2nd December.
The incredible support from the Hockey community has also been backed up by a number of corporate benefactors. To this end we would like to pay a special thanks to Rondo Foods the German owner of Gaines, DCC and Uniphar all of whom expressed their desire to ensure the National Team was given their rightful opportunity to compete in this important world ranking event. Further special thanks are extended to Coaching Brain, along with an additional anonymous benefactor.
We would also like to thank and recognise the support of the Leinster Hockey Association and Leinster Hockey Umpires Association.
All the numbers are not yet finalised and some verbal commitments are still in the pipeline, however, we want to re-assure people that ALL FUNDS raised over the last few days are going to the men’s squad and any surplus will go towards World League 2 in February and WILL NOT be used for general IHA running. This is recognised as the express wishes of the vast majority of contributors and will be honoured. Chairman of the Board Dennis Millar stated “ The Board are thrilled that through a team effort and support from the community and benefactors that the team is now partaking in the Champions Challenge. We look forward to supporting them at this upcoming ranking event.”
The IHA would like to recognise the contribution of the Men’s Team in driving the fundraising forward along with many others most notably Inez Cooper.
Men’s Irish Team Captain Ronan Gormley commented “What has taken place over the last week is simply remarkable. On behalf of the Irish Men’s Team I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart all those who have contributed. We have been told that we have inspired people through our performances…right now we are truly inspired by you!”
