Defending Champions Netherlands will take on world number six New Zealand, while hosts Great Britain will challenge the current World Champions Argentina in the semi finals of the 6th day of Women’s Hockey Competition.
New Zealand will appear in their first Olympics Semi Final at 15:30 BST, to take on defending champions Netherlands at Riverbank Arena. World number six team Black Sticks had finished last in Beijing and their best Olympics finish was 6th place in 2004, 2000 of 10 teams, while they finished 6th of 6 teams in 1984 Olympics. Their opponents in semi finals of London 2012, the Dutch have won a total of 6 medals (2 Gold, 1 Silver and 3 Bronze) from 7 Olympics appearances, missing one in 1992 Barcelona.
In the second Semi Final, hosts Great Britain will challenge Bronze Medalists from Beijing, Argentina at 20:00 BST. The world champions and number two in FIH World Rankings Las Leonas have won 3 Olympics Medals (1 Silver and 2 Bronze) from their 5 Olympics appearances, while hosts have only a Bronze Medal. Led by record 7 times FIH World Player of the Year Luciana AYMAR, Las Leonas will be going all out to add the missing yellow metal to their crown, which will also get them world number one crown once again.
In the first match of the day Japan will lock horns with South Africa, while Korea will play World Number Germany in 2nd match, for 9th and 7th positions respectively.
