The Day 4 of the WOMEN’s Hockey Competition at London Olympics will start with some interesting situations, 4 Pool B teams (Argentina, New Zealand, Australia and Germany) are having 6 points from the three matches with two wins and one loss each.
The day will start with the match between the two Southern Hemisphere teams Australia and South Africa from Pool B at 0830 BST. World #7 Hockeyroos, who are locked with three other teams at 6 points, will definitely be upbeat with their two back to back wins against world number three Germany and 2011 Pan American Games Champions USA and would love to continue their winning streak. 2nd match of the day will be played between defending champions Netherlands and Korea. The Dutch side has 3 wins from as many matches and would be looking forward to continue their winning streak with a fourth win and qualify for a place in the semi finals.
Mid day session will start with Japan taking on Belgium at 13:45 BST, both Japan and Belgium are at the last and second last position in Pool A and thus out of contention for the medal. While hosts Great Britain come out on the pitch at 16:00 BST against China, the Silver Medalists from Beijing. The hosts will be looking for a draw or win in the match, to ensure their entry to the last four. World Number 4 Great Britain has 9 points for their 3 wins from 3 matches and are the table toppers on the basis of goal difference, while China, a place below the hosts in FIH Ranking, is at third place in table with 4 points from 3 matches with 1 of each win, draw and loss.
Evening session of the day is expected to be interesting. The Black Sticks (#7 in FIH World Ranking) will take on world number 10 USA. Once again, two former Kookaburras will be up against each other as coaches, this time it is Mark Hager (New Zealand) vs Lee Bodimeade (USA). Black Sticks are having 6 points from 2 wins of 3 matches, while USA has 3 points from one win of three matches.
The last match of the day will be played between world number 2 and 3 teams, Argentina and Germany. The former won 2 of 3 matches played between them in the Olympics. Argentina had defeated Germany in Pool B match with 4-0, and also in bronze medal match 3-1. The Las Leonas also defeated Germany (4-2) in Champions Trophy 2012 and went on to winning the trophy in front of the home crowd at Rosario.
