On the 2nd Day of the Women’s Hockey Competition at the Riverbank Arena, World #1 team Netherlands will play Japan in the first match of day in the morning session at 8:30 (BST) on 31st July in the Pool A match, Japan never faced Netherlands in Olympics. Netherlands won their first of campaign (3-0 against Belgium) while Japanese women lost (0-4) to hosts Great Britain.
Asian Giants China and Korea will face Belgium at 13:45 and Great Britain at 16:00 BST respectively in Pool A matches. Beijing Silver Medalists China started on a winning note in the tournament, when they defeated Korea 4-0 in the campaign opener. Since it is Belgium’s first Olympics, it will be their first outing against China in the Olympics, while Korea and Great Britain have faced each other 5 times in the Olympics with 2 wins for either teams and their latest match was drawn in Olympics 2000.
In the Pool B matches of the day, South African women’s will play Black Sticks at 10:45 in the morning session, Pan American Rivals Argentina and USA will play at 19:00, while Germany will take on Hockeyroos at 21:15 at Riverbank Arena. On first day, New Zealand (Black Sticks Women) defeated their trans-Tasmanian rivals Australia by 1-0, while World number 2 side Las Leonas (Argentina) outclassed (7-1) South African and Pan American Champions lost (1-2) to World #3 Germany.
South Africa and Black Sticks have won one match each in their two Olympic face-to-face matches, while Germany is also on equal terms in Olympics against Hockeyroos, with 2 wins, 2 losses and a draw from 5 outings with 5 goals for each team. Though the World #2 side Argentina has won 3 of 4 outings in Olympics against USA drawn 1, USA defeated the Las Leonas (4-2) in 2011 Pan American Games Final.
