Apart from Indian state-run broadcaster Doordarshan (DD) and All India Radio (AIR), ESPN Star Sports (the other rights holder for India) will telecast London Olympics on ESPN, Star Sports and ESPN HD channels. DD, AIR and ESPN Star Sports will be focusing on India in Olympics, specially Hockey.
According to sources, ESPN will be more specific to India. ESPN Star Sports will present a customized telecast focusing on India. Being specific to India, ESPN telecasts will feature Indian athletes, and Hockey, Shooting, Boxing, Wrestling, Tennis and football, which popular sports in India. Gymnastics, Equestrian and Volleyball will be on Star Sports’ Radar, while ESPN HD will be a blend of both the channels.
DD Sports, DD’s sports channel, will telecast the event live including opening and closing ceremonies and will telecast from 12.30PM onwards for 14 hours every day with live coverage of hockey, swimming, archery, boxing and badminton, etc. While DD National’s programming will be India-specific including a 30 minutes program at 7.30AM and an highlights at 9.00AM everyday.
All India Radio (AIR) will also broadcast the London Olympics, which includes India’s Hockey matches, opening and closing ceremonies. These live broadcast will be available on its national channel and AIR FM Gold (106.4 MHz), while state capital Kendras can also relay them. AIR’s coverage also includes football along with semi-finals and finals.
AIR is all geared with a total database of Indian performance at the Olympics, ready to broadcast breaking news from London and with an elaborate news coverage with inputs and feeds from London.
