India took on hosts Spain in the last match of Tri-Nations Hockey Tournament at Santander, after both of them lost their respective matches against Great Britain. Great Britain defeated India (3-1) and Spain (2-1) to finish first, while Spain defeated India (2-1) in the last match of the tournament to finish Second. India lost their both the matches and finished Third.
India played better hockey in first half, looked inspired by their last match before the London Games. After a scoreless first half, the match became more tensed, which saw 6 temporary suspensions (2 green and 2 yellow cards for hosts, while one of each for India).
Spain controlled the game from the starting of second half, kept possession, reached to Indian goal. David Alegre (43rd Minute) and Miquel Delás (61st Minute) scored on penalty corners to earn a lead of 2-0 for the hosts. However, India pulled one back through VR Raghunath in a Penalty Corner in 64th Minute of the game to 2-1, and ran out of time in search of equalizer.
