India beat Canada 3-2, South Africa (W) beat India to Reach Finals

After three continuous win, on the roll, undefeated Indian men’s team defeated spirited Canada 3-2, who needed to win the match to stay in the tournament. South African women’s team came out with their best performances of the tournament to beat the hosts 2-5. The hosts were always behind the African champions and equalized at two occasion, but after that South Africa raced away by restoring the lead quickly and scoring three goals in last 18 minutes.  South Africa went in lemon break with the score board reading 2-1 in favor of them (CHAMBERLAIN Dirkie scored for RSA in 12th and 32nd minute/Ansuta Lakra in 23rd minute for IND). And the score remained the intact until the middle of second half, when India’s Yendala Soundarya found the board in 52nd minute to restore the parity. But South Africa replied in style and gained the lead within next minute through DAMONS Sulette. Dirkie and Sulette again found the target in 58th and 67th minute to complete the score tally of 5-2.

Indian men’s came out winning over stiff and methodical Canada. Shivendra Singh snatched the ball in a goal mouth melee to register first goal for India (26th minute) and his fifth in the tournament and India went in lemon break with this lead (1-0). 5 minutes after the break, India doubled the lead through Sandeep Singh in penalty corner to make it 2-0 in favor of the hosts. But resilliant and clinical team of Canada lead by Rob Short and Ken Periera in mid-field scored two goals (50th minute FG byPEARSON Mark and 53rd minute PC goal by TUPPER Scott) in the gap of three minutes to equalize the scores to 2-2. India got its winning goal through Sandeep Singh (his 9th in the tourney) in 61st minute in a PC. The match was played high tempo with lots of energy and umpires had to work really hard to keep it under control. With this win, India almost in the finals, while Canada is out of race.
