After winning Senior Nationals 2011, Haryana Juniors defeated Odisha 3-2 in the penalty shoot out for a 5-4 aggregate victory to lift the 1st Hockey India Junior Men’s National hockey title. The two teams were locked 2-2 at the end of the regulation time.

In the new penalty shootout format (as it was seen in Asian Champions Trophy final between India and Pakistan), Orissa skipper Stanli Victor Minz and Amon Mirash Tirkey failed to put the ball in, Haryana’s Manish Rana found the target to take his 1-0 up. While Odisha came back into match through Mikhal Barla and Bikas Kujur after Haryana’s Siddhant Gautam failed to score, Ranjit Singh and Naveen Antil made sure they had the last laugh.
In the regulation time, it was Odisha took the lead early in the match through Ignacius Toppo (6th minute) and stood firm in defense led by Dilip Toppo and Deepak Kullu. Haryana Equalized through Manish Rana in the 17th Minute of second half and took lead through Ranjit Singh in the 45th minute of the game. The eventual winners Haryana held the lead till last minute when Odiya skipper Minz, set up by Barla, helped Orissa draw level with a cracker into the net. And the deadlock could not be broken in extra time and finally Haryana emerged winner in the penalty shoot out.
Punjab routed Jharkhand 6-1 to claim third spot after later took lead in 15th minute through Rajin Khandulna. Sukhmanjit Singh (22nd), Sukhdev Singh (24th), Mandeep Singh (33rd), Varun Kumar (40th), Harsahib Singh (57th), Gaganpreet Singh (66th) scored for Punjab.
