New rules for the International Super Series include:
• Each match consists of two 15 minute halves (instead of 2×35 minute halves) with only 5 minutes break for halftime
• All teams have a maximum of 9 players on the field (instead of 11 players)
• One player from each team must remain in the forward half at all times
• Each team can use up to 18 players (instead of 16)

Gurjinder to lead Junior India team for the Six Nation Sultan Johor Cup 2011

Junior India team for the Six Nation Sultan Johor Cup to be held in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, from 05-12 November 2011, announced.

The other teams participating are Australia, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand and Pakistan. The tournament shall be played at Taman Daya Stadium, Johor Bahru on a round robin format with the final and other position matches on 12 November.

Selection Trials for the Indian team for this tournament were conducted at SAI Centre, Bangalore on 14 & 15 October and witnessed by Hockey India Selectors Col. Balbir Singh, BP Govinda and Syed Ali. The trials were conducted after all probables underwent the Medical Age Proof Verification tests as prescribed by Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.

Air India won 28th Surjit Hockey Tournament

Air India won the 28th Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament for the first time by beating the defending champions Indian Oil by 4-2 at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium, Jalandhar. The winners were presented with cash prize of 2.50 Lakh, a Trophy and One quintal Almonds where as Runners up were given 1.50 Lakhs and Trophy. Affan Yousuf of Indian Oil Mumbai got a gold medal for the best player of the tournament. Indian Oil were leading by 1-0 at half time with the lone goal of half by Dharamvir Singh. But Air India equalized through Joga Singh in 45th Minute, look lead through Rahul Shilpkar’s goal in PC (49th Minute). Indian Oil’s Affan Yousuf equalized the scores again (2-2) through PC in 52nd Minute. Rahul Shilpkar converted two more PCs (55th and 67th Minute) to seal in the game and clinch the title for Air India.
