Asian Champions Trophy 2011 (Men’s):
India and Pakistan have put up impressive performance in the tournament. India is only unbeaten team with 2 wins and 2 draws while Pakistan has won 3 and lost only to reach the top of table (given below) ahead of the final set of round-robin matches, while India is just a point behind Pakistan. The neighboring arch-rivals will be playing their final round-robin match against each other on 9th Sept (Friday), which is a virtual semi-final for the event. India have scored more goals and conceded less than any other team in the competition, making best goal difference in the tournament till now.
In the virtual semi-final, a win for either Pakistan or India would see them in final and japan will need victory over Malaysia, but a draw between India and Pakistan may be just enough for the latter, but India will have to wait for the result of match between third placed Japan and Malaysia which is out of the race for final. The tournament is still wide open.
Asian Champions Trophy 2011 (Women’s):
Korea needs a draw against Japan in their final round-robin match to reach the Gold medal match. And if Japan wins the match they will be through to Gold medal match. While host China also needs a draw against India who are at the bottom of table, but India can not be taken lightly by China as India had beaten China 2-1 in 1st Asian Champions Trophy to win Bronze medal.
